Beyond Limits is a spinoff of Caltech and JPL’s AI Reasoning Laboratory. 

JPL’s AI Reasoning lab was established to solve NASA’s complex challenges in extreme environments with insufficient data. A cognitive AI was developed by combining numeric AI, symbolic AI, and Caltech IP blocks. This hybrid AI has kept the Mars rover "Curisoty" healthy since 2011. In 2014, Mark James left the AI Reasoning Lab and founded Beyond Limits with AJ Abdallat. Beyond Limits received exclusive license to use the hybrid AI as its base AI along with a significant portfolio of advanced technology from JPL and Caltech. Beyond Limits successfully deployed the “LUMINAI Refinery Advisor” for BP, effectively reduced material cost and waste in production, maximized operational efficiencies, and accelerated time to market. The following year, Beyond Limits introduced Lubricant Formula Advisor, optimizing lubricant formulation accurately, rapidly, with lesser cost. Since then, Beyond Limits has doubled in size and entering into other industries, going where no AI company has ever gone before.
