The Role and Responsibilities

Roku is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Engineer to test firmware and OS software for Roku TV and related products.  You will be responsible to formulate test strategies, design test cases, create automated test scripts, and execute manual test cases for new products.  You should be able to drive projects independently, represent QA concerns in meetings with cross-functional project team members, and provide valuable end-user feedback to improve the customer experience.

• Create and execute test plans for new products and features and ensure adequate test coverage
• Record all test results and provide a high-level summary of test coverage and results
• Troubleshoot issues down to the root cause and provide detailed bug reports
• Test compatibility with audio / video devices, Wi-Fi routers, and audio / video streaming file types
• Own and drive to completion features, products, and devices
• Work on cross functional teams with hardware, and firmware development teams
• Work directly with external partners such as SoC vendors and partner device manufacturers

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience writing and executing QA test plans for consumer electronics products
• Experience formulating test strategy, designing test cases and modifying/executing automated regression test scripts
• Experience with Python or equivalent language in developing automated tests to validate products
• Experience with Linux
• Good understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Experience with a variety of testing techniques
• Experience generating and presenting quantitative reports
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Mandarin
• Possess good technical communication and team building skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with smart TVs, consumer audio/video devices, set-top boxes, and TV remote controllers
• Experience with audio/video streaming and audio/video codecs (HLS, MP4, MKV, smooth streaming, etc., …)
• Experience with wired and wireless home networking
